Italy

Margherita and I had a short break in Italy for a wedding recently and I took a few snaps as always. We spent most of our time in Como, but also managed a quick trip to Milan as well. Unfortunately I have completely failed to do the area any justice at all with my photos! Lake Como in particular is absolutely stunning, one of the prettiest places I've visited. The best views I saw were from up in the mountains overlooking the lake, but I didn't get the chance to get any shots in. Oh well, there's always next time I guess...

Turkey 2011

After a mammoth session of scanning film negatives, I finally finished all my holiday pics. Margherita and I spent four days in Istanbul and six on a beautiful island called Bozcaada in the Aegean Sea. The full set is on Flickr  as always, but these are a few of my favourites:

Double Exposure

Bizarrely, over the next week I will have photos showing in two different exhibitions in London.

My entry to Diemar/Noble's Fitzrovia Photography Prize is on display at the Diemar/Noble Gallery until 20 August. As I mentioned before, Julian Wakeling's winning shot is superb and there's some great work on show. The gallery's open from 11am-6pm, Tuesday-Saturday at 66/67 Wells St, London W1T 3PY.

I have also just dropped off my submission for the fourth Greenwich Annuale, the annual showpiece exhibition of the Greenwich Satellite Group of London Independent Photography. I'm exhibiting a photo from my ongoing Thames Path series which were on show at the Brockley Max festival earlier this year.

The exhibition runs from 15-28 August, with a private view on Wednesday 17 August. The exhibition's open Monday to Friday, 9.30 to 5pm; Weekends 12-4pm at Linear House Gallery, Peyton Place, Royal Hill, Greenwich SE10 8RS.

I've not seen the other submissions yet, but I'm sure it's going to be a great show and well worth a look if you're in the area. Royal Hill is also home to some great pubs in case you needed more encouragement...

This was my entry for the Diemar/Noble Fitzrovia Photography Prize. It's on display at the Diemar/Noble Gallery, London from 21 Jul 2011 – 20 Aug 2011.

I didn't win, but there's some great work on display and the winning shot itself is superb and well worth a look.

Photographic Clichés by Martin Parr

My friend Puppkin pointed me in the direction of this great blog post by Martin Parr on the subject of photographic clichés. He writes very well, and raises some interesting issues with plenty to think about. I doubt there are many photographers who don't struggle from time to time with that feeling of having seen and/or done it all before...
