Nick Asbury's entertaining reply to David Cameron's invite. Certainly more eloquent (and polite) than I would be...

Here Comes the Night
Mikel Aramendia and Andrés Medina have compiled a new book of night photography called Here Comes the Night available now from Blurb.
It features a great selection of shots, including some from Sander Meisner who I'm a big fan of and have mentioned on here a few times before.
You can preview the whole book on Blurb, or see a selection on their tumblr site as well.

Polaroid Portrait
After staring jealously at other people's Polaroids for far too long, I finally got around to getting one of my own. I took the plunge and bought a 1960s Polaroid Land Camera Automatic 103 which arrived yesterday. Although the battery was heavily corroded, it still had some long-expired film left in it so this was my first test shot.
It's a photo of my colleague Mrinal, and whilst it's accurately managed to capture his sunny disposition, I think it's fair to say it not the most realistic portrait. Last night I modified the battery compartment to take 2xAAA batteries and the shutter seems to be working fine which is good news. I've got two more of the expired Polaroids left to take and then I'll start using Fuji FP-100C film as a modern alternative.
I think this is going to be the start of a long and happy relationship with a bit of luck...

The Shashin Collective
The Shashin Collective is a photographic showcase of interesting photographers, all producing great work. They did accidentally let one of my shots in, but hopefully this isn't the start of a decline in their standards...

Pixels
I'm sure this short film will be all over the internet like a rash, no reason not to help it on its way a little. Scary to think that I'm old enough to have played all these games...

But Beautiful
I just finished reading Geoff Dyer's "But Beautiful" on the way into work this morning. It's a superb, semi-fictionalised, selective history of jazz. You needn't know or care much about jazz to appreciate the quality of Geoff Dyer's writing and his imaginative scope. It's hard to describe if you're rubbish at writing like me, but if you like your fact to read more like fiction then it's an astonishingly good read.
I'd already read his great photography book "The Ongoing Moment" last year and enjoyed that massively. Despite being obsessed with photography, I probably enjoyed "But Beautiful" even more. Fascinating as many photographers are, there aren't many whose lives have been as interesting as the legendary jazz musicians.

Cartonography... by Sea Moon
Superb lighting and subject matter. I'm a sucker for photos that turn everyday objects into something extraordinary.
there must be a way out by Doinix
You can't go wrong with a nice diptych, it's one of the reasons I like half-frame cameras so much.
Park Bench by Mr Birch
If it wasn't for the title, I'd have been puzzling over this one for ages. It's very impressive how he's managed to create a feeling of scale and a sort of sci-fi look and feel.
Silver birches by Martin Pickard
Beautiful, blurred shot of the silver birches outside Tate Modern, reminds me of some of Klimt's landscapes.
